Class size minimum is 2 students with a maximum of 8 students (unless restrictions apply, see below). Our smaller class sizes ensure that you and your dog receive valuable one-on-one instruction.
Classes are one hour in length unless otherwise noted.

PUPPIES

LEVEL P: PUPPY PRE-SCHOOL
For puppies 2 to 4 months old.
Class meets once weekly for 4 weeks.
Class is designed to be repeated.

• Socialization with people, places & things

• Bite inhibition (soft mouth)

• Off-leash play with other puppies

• House- and crate-training

• Body handling, including nail trimming

LEVEL P1: S.T.A.R. PUPPY
For puppies 4 to 7 months old.
Puppy may or may not have graduated Level P: Puppy Preschool.
Class meets once weekly for 8 weeks.
S.T.A.R. stands for Socialization, Training, Activity and Responsibility (learn more).
Puppies are evaluated, certified and awarded a certificate and medal at graduation.

LEVEL P2: POLISHED PUPPY
For puppies up to 1 year old.

   • Continue Level P1: S.T.A.R. Puppy skills,
    including body handling, socialization with
    people and off-leash play with other puppies

DOGS

LEVEL D1: ESSENTIAL MANNERS
For dogs over 7 months old.
Class meets once weekly for 4 weeks.

• Attention to handler

• Wait (for food, through doors)

• Verbal cue for sit

• Sit for greeting humans

• "Go to your place" - stand

• Sit for greeting dogs (on leash)

LEVEL D2: CANINE GOOD CITIZEN
For graduates of Level D1 (or Levels P1 & P2)
Class meets once weekly for 8 weeks with the goal of preparing students to take the
AKC's Canine Good Citizen test test.
Emphasis is on proofing known skills, learning new skills, and fading food reinforcement and leash walking equipment.
Students are encourage to schedule CGC testing at Doggy Haven upon class completion.

   • Continue Level D1 skills
      - Accepting a friendly stranger
      - Sitting politely for petting
      - Appearance and grooming
      - Walking through a crowd
      - Sit & down (hand signal, verbal cue,
        at a distance
      - Out for a walk (loose leash, heel & come

CGC TEST
Open to graduates of Level D2: Canine Good Citizen and to non-students.
AKC's Canine Good Citizen test will be administered by a certified evaluator and certification will be awarded to students who pass all 10 test items. The test takes approximately 15 minutes per dog and will be scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis.

CGC PRACTICE TEST
A great way to practice before test day. The practice test takes approximately 15 minutes per dog and will be scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis.

LEVEL 3A: GO DOG, GO!
For graduates of Level D2*.
*Students who have earned their CGC within 2 years may enroll without having graduated Level D2.
Class meets once weekly for 4 weeks and can be repeated.

• Class meets weekly at offsite locations
chosen by students

• Emphasis is on performance of skills
in real-world scenarios

LEVEL 3B: OFF LEASH ADVENTURES
For graduates of Level D2.
For dogs 1 year old and older.
Class meets once weekly for 8 weeks and can be repeated.
Dog must be friendly to people and others dogs - NO exceptions!

   • This class will prepare you and your dog to
     work off-leash without worrying that your dog
     will run away or get into other kinds of trouble

• Skills from all prior levels are practiced
(polite greetings of people and dogs,
coming when called, car & leash manners)

   • Beginning Rally Obedience and Agility
     exercises are introduced, intended for fun and
     not competition

• Also learn skills for identifying appropriate
    & inappropriate dog play and tips for
    stepping in when things go awry via
    off-leash play with other dogs

SPECIALIZED TRAINING

FEISTY FIDO
Instructor permission is required prior to enrolling in this class.
Please contact the instructor for more information.
Class meets once weekly for 8 weeks.
Class is limited to 4 dogs per class.
Week 1 is an orientation for handlers only (no dogs).

   • Does your dog lunge, whine, bark and/or
     growl when he sees another leashed dog?
     If so, you are not alone!

• In this class, you will learn effective
strategies to improve your dog's
behavior around other dogs on leash

CLICKS & TRICKS
For dogs 7 months and older.
Class meets once weekly for 8 weeks.

   • In this class, you will discover the power of
     shaping your dogs behavior using a clicker as
     a marker signal.

• Beginning, intermediate and advanced
tricks will be introduced and are sure to
make your dog a neighborhood star!

• Fun for both dog and handler is guaranteed.

• No prior clicker experience is necessary.

BOARD & TRAIN

For dogs of all ages.
Two weeks boarding with daily instruction.
Plus, two one-hour follow-up training sessions at the Resort.

Our two-week Board & Train program was created to teach dogs basic obedience through daily, personalized training. Your dog's knowledge will grow and focus will intensify as he learns and perfects his skills in an environment full of distractions and activity. This program benefits dogs of all ages and levels of experience.

PUPPY PLAY TIMES (Owner-Present, Drop In)

For puppies up to 1 year old.
All puppies must be friendly to people and other dogs - NO exceptions!

Current students: $5 per play time or $35 for 8-playtimes with purchase of Level P1: S.T.A.R. Puppy
Non-Students: $10 per play time

• Come get a taste of the fun at Doggy Haven Resort!

• Our owner-present play times are a great way to provide much-needed socialization and
exercise to puppies who may not be physically or emotionally ready for the dog park.

• One of our experienced trainers will be on-hand to mederate and answer questions during
each hour.

• Puppies will be matched with appropriate play partners and will take short play breaks
throughout the hour.

Tuition, Class Withdrawal & Cancellation Policy

Tuition is due in full at the time of registration.

Homeward Pet and K9 R & R rescue adoptees may select for their first class session any one of the following – Level P: Puppy Pre-School, Level P1: S.T.A.R. Puppy, D1: Essential Manners, Specialized: Clicks & Tricks, or Specialized: Feisty Fido (with instructor approval).

We accept cash, local checks, , , and .

Refunds or credits will be granted only for students who withdraw at least one week prior to the first day of class (less a $10 handling fee). No refunds or credits will be granted after that point.

This policy applies to adopters whose class fee is included in the adoption fee—credit for a future class will only be granted if you withdraw at least one week prior to the first day of class.
